Bill Cleyndert and company identified a need for a bespoke promotional furniture piece to take centre stage at shows and head up advertising material in the form of re-produced professional studio photographical images.
The piece needed to be a talking point that promoted Bill Cleyndert and Company Ltd. as a bespoke furniture and joinery manufacturer rather than a supplier of product lines which is often the initial mistake. A controlled novel element was important to convey this, a perception from the prospective client that the piece must not be product and subsequently provoking them to investigate further.
The company is constantly developing new finishing and manufacturing techniques, the piece needed to be a canvas to show these off whilst conveying the hand crafted skills the Company has thrived upon and the cabinet makers utilise still today.
The idea of a traditional woodworkers bench, manufactured in a mixture of top quality furniture style materials was the ideal solution for the Company. The traditional form is kept with the overhanging top and sturdy under frame, housing a storage cabinet and slatted shelf.
The Rosewood top, drawer fronts and door fronts are machined with a continuous scalloped texture developed by the Company. This texture cuts into the face surface only, to contrast the crisp cabinet maker crafted lines of the rest of the panels. The Red Gum under frame is constructed with mortice and tenon joints and further pinned with contrasting Rosewood dowels.
